Good news from Switzerland! Thanks to a worldwide collaboration of Greyhound breders and fanciers, the causative gene mutation for Greyhound Hereditary Neuropathy could recently be identified. A gene test for identification of asymptomous carriers is already available at the Vetsuisse Faculty Berne .Thereby we now have a tool at our’s hands to avoid the birth of affected puppies in the future.
For Gucci
The first scientifically described case of Greyhound Hereditary Neuropathy, and the origin of all the research.
The fulfilment of a dream, turning into a nightmare through no fault of his own. His story stands exemplary for all the other fellow sufferers, for sorrow and despair of their owners – forced to watch helplessly how the beloved family member is dying every day a little bit more, month for month. No deliverance in the moment of goodbye – these puppies don’t suffer, they enjoy their life on unsteady legs. Even if they can’t stand upon their legs any more, they are full of joie de vivre – putting them to sleep feels like murdering them.
Without Gucci the Neuropathy Project probably never would have been started – but for him, there was no help.
Goodbye little friend – we miss you deeply!
